The DRM Toolbox is a set of methods used by designers to create rhetorical effects in their product design. The DRM Road- map, is a map of how the DRM tools can be used in different design situations and produce radically different results depending on parameters such as brand ethos or degree of innovation and more.
The DRM tools can guide a designer in the design process. In his book “What Designers Know”, Bryan Lawson introduced the term “Design Gambits”, to describe a designer’s silent knowledge as a ‘repertoire of tricks’ that expert designers use for problem solving.
“… to beat another chess master who is also recognizing the situation and similarly has a vast pool of precedent and gambits to rely on, they need to create something new, original and surprising.”
Designers can use the DRM tools as a guide and inspiration when developing their own design gambits. The intention is to make designers, strategists and marketers aware of the potential in persuasive product design.
Learn a repertoire of tricks that designers use in order to increase the value of products.
Perceived brand value and product value are transferrable to each other. This is a form of associative learning similar to classical psychological conditioning. Learn to find your own arguments in order to increase value!
